Bye-Bye Instagram!

Welcome to my first blog post! I am really excited to not only be starting this blog but sharing with you some changes that I'm going to be implementing within the next couple of weeks.

There are so many platforms that can be used to connect authors and readers. Gone are the days of authors being mysterious entities that we didn't know more about than the bios at the back of their books. Now we can find most of our favorite authors on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. It's never been easier to connect with one another and that can be a really beautiful thing.

As an author and an avid reader I love talking to other readers and authors. It's amazing to connect with others who love the same books as you! You can swoon over the same love interests, or share fan art or theories about upcoming books, and for someone who is pretty alone in her book nerdiness in real life that is a wonderful feeling. But along with those positives come negatives as well. Self-comparison, anxiety, stress, fear of not being liked, and frustrations with others for reasons that are minuscule are only a few things that I personally struggle with on social media. Instagram especially. The pressure to perform or post something worth those little hearts starts to feel like its own job. As an author you're told that social media is necessary to stay relevant and connect with readers, and maybe it's becoming that way, but it's fully not working for me anymore.

I spend more time talking about writing than actually writing.

Trying to build an online platform takes a lot of time and creativity. Some authors are able to manage multiple social media platforms and writing seamlessly, but I'm not one of them. My time and creativity are not endless and when I put my time and attention into Instagram I am taking it away from my writing. Writing is why I started my Instagram account in the first place, but now I spend more time talking about writing and than actually writing. So as much as it hurts my heart a little to say this I soon will be shutting down my Instagram account. My Facebook page will remain active for now in order to post updates as well as links to upcoming blog posts, but I will mostly be communicating through this blog and my Newsletter. I know that this means that I will likely miss out on opportunities and connections by not having other social media platforms but this is the right call for me right now. I'm not saying I'll never be back, but this is what I personally need for now.

I am so grateful for all the amazing people I have gotten to know in my time on Instagram. You have all been wonderful and I have grown and learned a lot because of you. I hope that you'll consider keeping up with me and my books here. Please consider subscribing to my newsletter and also messaging me with your emails, phone numbers, and your own websites so I can subscribe to your newsletters as well.

Also, there are a lot of exciting things to expect in the coming weeks and months that I can't wait to share with you guys! Some of those things, I'll be sharing here and others will be only for those who subscribe to my newsletter. I don't want to be spamming people so I will try to keep those emails to once or twice a month with updates. Those subscribed to my newsletter will be the first to hear about reveals, Giveaways, and things like Advanced Reader Copies of my book. If you want to be apart of those things, please subscribe :).

Some exciting things that are coming this year are:

- Title and Cover reveals

- Beautiful character art

- Excerpts from book 2

- Information about Beta reading opportunities and Advanced Reader Copies (ARCS)

- Pre-Order swag

- Giveaways

- And Much More!

Thank you so much to those of you who have been following my journey since day one! You mean the world to me and I will never stop being grateful for you :).
